Our goal was to combine words that and give them a deeper meaning We were instructed to combine the meaning of the words with “&” and other symbols that can represent &. We had the freedom to choose our topic aside from that.
The project “Mine & Ours” is a social commentary that explores how internet trends and other mainstream trends often commodifies, and commercialize the cultural aspects of Black Culture, such as fashion, language, and music, without their understanding, credit, or consent.
Tools Used: Indesign, Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, Illustrator, Cricut, Microsoft Word.
Logo Design
“Mine” refers to marginalized groups originally/in general. Later in the project it refer more to me and my culture. “Ours” refers to the commodification/appropriation of culture that often happens when it becomes viral/trendy in a good or bad way.
When designing the logo I knew I wanted the theme to be centered around shopping, hence the price tag. I wanted to "Mine” to show black culture but not look tacky and “Ours” to have a more social media, marketable font.
